The Frederick Optimist Club Sponsored 2017 Talent Youth Competition

 
 
The Frederick Optimist Club held their 31st Annual Youth Talent Competition of the Performing Arts on April 8, 2017 at Governor Thomas Johnson High School; for the Talent Competition, 4 contestants in each category of dance, vocal, string, dramatic monologue, and other instruments performed.
 
The Grand Prize winner received $750. The first place winners in the remaining categories each received $400. All remaining contestants received $125.

 

Deacon Withers, winner in the Vocal category, is 12 years old and in the 6th grade at Brunswick Middle School; Elizabeth Shannon, winner in the Dramatic Monologue category, is 14 years old and in the 8th grade at Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School; Madelyn Beckman, winner in the Dance category, is 11 years old and in the 6th grade at Windsor Knolls Middle School; Ethan Zumbrun, winner in the Other Instrument category, is 11 years old and is in the 6th grade at Middletown Middle School; and JoAnnie Shia is our Grand Prize winner from the String category, she is 13 years old and is in the 7th grade at Urbana Middle School.

 

We continued this year with our “People’s Choice Award.” Natalie Jiron from the Dance category was presented with a trophy as this year’s winner. Post-show entertainment was provided by last year’s Grand Prize winner Leon Jia performing “Chopin Impromptu in F Sharp Major” by Frederic Chopin.
